"I'm tired. I'm worn. My heart is heavy from the work it takes to keep on breathing. I've made mistakes. I've let my hope fail. My soul feels crushed by the weight of this world."
(“Worn” by Tenth Avenue North)
Do you ever feel tired and worn? Do you ever feel like it takes too much strength to just keep breathing? Do you ever feel crushed? I think we all have hard days sometimes. Many people feel broken in this world. They’ve been scarred by the world around them and somehow they need to find a way to deal with this imperfect world. People try tons of different escape methods from the struggles of this world. Some people try to fill the emptiness with relationships or children. Some people work or study all the time in an attempt to block out the problems in their lives. Some try alcohol and drugs. However, none of these things help with the pain. And if you’ve tried any of these coping mechanisms (or others), you would probably say the same thing. So, if nothing we do can help us cope then there must be no hope, right? Wrong. We will find hope when we stop looking to ourselves for help and freedom.
Matthew 11:29-30 says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus has given His children an escape. He freely gives us an invitation to lay down our burdens at His feet and find rest. No matter what you are dealing with, the invitation stands. Maybe you have bitter memories of things in your past that keep you in bondage. Maybe you are struggling in school or work. Maybe you are finding trouble breaking a sin habit. Whatever it is that makes you weary, lay it down at the feet of Your Father, the King. For only He can set you free. Only He can mend your heart.
“And I know that You can give me rest. So I cry out with all that I have left. Let me see redemption win. Let me know the struggle ends. That You can mend a heart that's frail and torn. I want to know a song can rise from the ashes of a broken life and all that's dead inside can be reborn. Cause I'm worn.” (“Worn by Tenth Avenue North)
